In 1914, the Village of Oak Harbor established itself as a Public Power community. We are currently a member of American Municipal Power Inc. and participate in many projects with them to keep power costs at a minimum. We also are involved in a mutual aid program that allows the Village to send, or receive assistance from surrounding communities during serious outages or catastrophic events. Some of these communities include Genoa, Elmore, Woodville and Clyde. The Electric Department serves over 1,460 electric customers.
There are 3 full time employees in the Electric Department. Some of the duties of the department are setting poles, hanging transformers, pulling in wire conductor, hooking up new services, streetlight repair and reading some meters. Also, the Department is involved with supplying power for the 4th of July celebration, the Apple Festival, and the Christmas (Holiday) lights and decorations.
A duty man is on call 24/7 to handle any interruptions in power that may occur.
